MBA Degrees

Although you might hear of fellow employees or family members pursuing their MBA (Masters of Business Administration), there are several types of MBA degrees. Before you think of going for your MBA, you should already choose which of the types of MBA degrees is right for you.

The “general MBA” is perhaps the most popular of the kinds of MBAs available in traditional and online campuses today. As its nickname suggests, you learn a little bit of everything that you would encounter as a business administrator. This includes accounting, marketing and organizational behavior. One of the reasons for its popularity is that you can often get it in less than two years.

Specialized MBA degrees make up the rest of what’s on offer, and they are very specific. You really need to be sure where you want to concentrate your learning energy on. You also need to check with the campus you are considering seeing if they even offer it. Also, check with your employer to see if there are any career advantages to getting a specialized MBA as opposed to a general MBA.

Specialized MBA degrees include MBA in accounting, statistics, quantitative analysis, economics, finance, marketing, human resources management, e-commerce or e-business, technology management, risk management, operations management and entrepreneurship.

Before you sign up for any MBA degree course, whether online or from a campus, be sure that it is an accredited course. Also, check with your employer to see if they offer any kind of financial reimbursement for your course. Bigger companies still do this in order to keep experienced employees.

And no matter what type of MBA you choose to pursue, you can be sure that you will have to work hard to get any of them. Online courses are no easier than from a traditional campus. And some think that the general MBA is a tougher course than specialized MBA degrees.
