Colonization had lasting effects on both the countries that were colonized and the colonizers.
Colonies #1: A General Overview
A colony is a place ruled by a foreign country. When we think of colonies we generally think of the colonies ruled by the Europeans, like America, Australia and Canada. The beginning of these European colonies happened during a time known as “The Age of Discovery”. Long before this though, the Romans had colonies as far away as the Middle East.
Colonies #2: The Reasons for Colonization
There were many different ideas about why colonization was a good thing. The explorers had to persuade someone to pay for their trips, so they came up with reasons why it was a good idea. Here are some of the reasons they gave, including money, culture, and religion.
Colonies #3: The Effects of Colonization on Native North Americans
European colonization of North America had a devastating effect on the native population. Within a short period of time their way of life was changed forever. The changes were caused by a number of factors, including loss of land, disease, enforced laws which violated their culture and much more.
